OUR CHILDREN AND HUMAN PROGRESS

When the disciples of Christ Jesus asked him (Matt. 18:1), "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" the Master placed a little child in their midst. His answer implied that anyone who expresses the qualities of humility and receptivity is the greatest in heaven. And again, referring to little children, he said (verse 10), "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."

Christian Science teaches that in their real being, children are the pure ideas of God, Spirit, of Life, Truth, and Love. They dwell eternally in divine Mind as its perfect, complete ideas and do indeed behold the face of their Father "which is in heaven."

The birth of a child is the appearing to human sense of one of these pure ideas of divine Love. When regarded as spiritual ideas, not as mortals, by those who come in contact with them, children will manifest to an ever-increasing degree the true qualities of the sons of God.
