With a heart lifted up in gratitude...

With a heart lifted up in gratitude to God for Christian Science, I say with the Psalmist (Ps. 27:6), "Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord."

Shortly after my marriage, the family physician diagnosed as tuberculosis an illness I had contracted, and he informed me that I had but six months to live. Some time later, relatives living in another state invited my wife and me to visit them. We did so, and during our stay I discovered a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began reading it.

The logic of Christian Science was irresistible to me, and I accepted every statement of it. It dawned in my consciousness that there is no material man, subject to the caprice of fate, nor in reality is there any everyday routine of material living, reasoning, and worrying going on. All that is real is the direct expression or manifestation of the divine Mind, God, Spirit. I continued reading with no thought of healing. Three weeks later I found that all symptoms of the disease were gone and that I was healed. Gone too was a predisposition to colds.
