"REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY"

One of the great commandments which God gave to Moses in the wilderness reads in part (Ex. 20: 8), "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." In the days of Jesus, the observance of the Sabbath (from Friday evening to Saturday evening) had become so bound with man-made rules that it had lost its original significance: to cease labor and to worship God.

With the advent of Christianity it has become the custom for most Christians to celebrate not the last day of the week, but the first day, Sunday, as a day of rest from labor, a day of prayer and thanksgiving to God for His goodness.

The Lord's day may well be a day of peaceful but active dedication of one's thought and desire to the worship of God in the beauty of holiness, not alone with words but also with deeds. To the student of Christian Science, it might well be an opportunity for more time to turn away from the material aspect of life and to gain a clearer sense of God and His spiritual creation.
