While suffering from a cold, I...

While suffering from a cold, I prayed earnestly for the light of Truth, but the condition became worse. A woman with whom I was working said, "You had better do something about that cold."

I knew I should, but not in the way she was thinking. The next morning I prayerfully studied the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. As I pondered the story of David and Goliath (see I Sam. 17), I suddenly realized that its message could be helpful in my case.

I saw that the stones which David selected could be thought of as qualities, and the brook from which they were chosen, as divine Mind. Then I realized that these spiritual qualities of love, truth, and so on, were mine by reflection. One of them alone could destroy a cold, and the truth was that my real spiritual self had never had a cold.
