"A grateful heart a garden is"...

"A grateful heart a garden is" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 3). Christian Science has given me such a heart. In the eight years I have studied Science, the grace and glory and goodness of divine Love have continued to unfold in my experience.

Before I became a student of Christian Science, my children and I experienced beautiful healings of coughs, fevers, and sore throats through the devoted work of a relative. Though I was sometimes instantaneously healed, it was not until after I became a student that I fully appreciated these experiences. After I witnessed a neighbor's healing of a heart condition, which her doctor had pronounced fatal, I began to read our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through doing so, I realized that nothing is impossible to God, who is always at hand.

Confronted with the evidence of delirium one night when one of our young children was ill, I calmly said to the child something to this effect: "You are God's perfect child. This illness doesn't belong to you; it will soon go away." Everyone slept peacefully, and in the morning there was not a sign that anything had ever been wrong with the child.
