Signs of the Times

Rev. Eizo sakamoto in an editorial in the Daily Gazette Rocky Ford, Colorado

Almost everyone has his own private sanctuary. We have places and pursuits to which we turn for refuge, where our thoughts may be collected, our spirits quieted, our zest renewed. Whatever helps us in this way is a true sanctuary.... The establishment of sanctuaries in our lives will contribute to physical and spiritual health.

In addition to the public sanctuary of worship, we have these private sanctuaries—the quiet moment, the escape from routine, the friendship and uplift of great art, the refreshment of nature. They are the springs which feed the great streams of public worship; they are the sources of power for personal living. Give more attention to these private sanctuaries and see how much richer and more helpful the service of public worship becomes. For the person who approaches the sanctuary with worshipful spirit, both strength and beauty are to be found there.
