CONSISTENT PRACTICE OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

A Student who is faced with a mathematical problem and who deviates in the slightest from the principle involved is hindered in finding its solution. Similarly, to deviate from the unalterable fact that God, Spirit, is the only creator and that the only true creation is spiritual hinders the solution of our problems in Christian Science. One cannot correct mistakes by ignoring them, nor can one arrive at a more harmonious existence until he perceives the falsity of material claims.

The student of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy finds that our Leader never departs from the premise that God, divine Mind, is the only cause and that every effect is a mental phenomenon. Mrs. Eddy handles every argument and claim of evil and meets every wrong situation on the same consistent and positive basis. In putting on the whole garment of the Christ, she was imbued with its healing power and thus was able to bring health, joy, and inspiration to countless numbers of sick and disheartened people. Her life exemplified these words of hers which are found in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 312): "Oh, may the love that is talked, be felt! and so lived, that when weighed in the scale of God we be not found wanting. Love is consistent, uniform, sympathetic, self-sacrificing, unutterably kind; even that which lays all upon the altar, and, speechless and alone, bears all burdens, suffers all inflictions, endures all piercing for the sake of others, and for the kingdom of heaven's sake."

At times some students of this Science may attempt to obey its rules, while also making an effort to satisfy mortal mind's demands. An obvious impossibility! The command (II Cor. 6:17), "Come out from among them, and be ye separate." clearly states the Christian Scientist's position in relation to worldly thought. A sincere denial of material selfhood accompanies one's withdrawal to a higher realm of consciousness, where worldly beliefs drop away.
