SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION AND TRANSLATION

"Spiritual evolution alone is worthy of the exercise of divine power," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 135). Man evolves spiritually, not materially. Mortal mind has no part in the spiritual evolution of man. The laws of spiritual unfoldment operate as laws of Spirit, and they annul the erroneous beliefs of mortal mind, which are seen in the vagaries and inconsistencies of material birth, maturity, and decay.

Spiritual evolution unfolds as a cycle of spiritual good. The cause of this evolution is Spirit, which includes in itself all substance and power and is expressed in spiritual ideas, not in material beliefs. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes (ibid., p. 507), "Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source." Mortal mind counterfeits the creation of Spirit and by inversion claims to evolve a belief of creation based on matter, but this so-called creation is always a counterfeit of the real.

To gain the understanding of spiritual evolution and witness its effects in our earthly experience, one must quit the basis of mind in matter and acknowledge Spirit, God, as the only creator and man as evolved from Mind. The revelation of Christian Science presents spiritual and exalted views of creation. God is the only creator; therefore all creation unfolds from Spirit as spiritual ideas. Whatever does not originate in God, good, is a counterfeit, which must eventually be superseded by the counterfact.
