Through several experiences, I...

Through several experiences, I have seen that when we allow personal sense to interfere with our understanding of Truth, we have a much harder struggle than if we had kept personality out of the picture. One such occasion occurred when I worked in a chemical laboratory. Some hot acid splashed on my face, in one eye, and on my left arm. Someone handed me something with which to wash off the acid, but before I had finished washing out my eye those around me, trying to be helpful, started making all sorts of suggestions as to what was the right or wrong thing to do. I became quite afraid and did not know where to turn.

Soon I left the others and went to a small room to pray as we are taught in Christian Science. After a few minutes my fear went away, but I was still quite concerned with what had happened. Later that afternoon, as soon as I left the office, I went to a Christian Science Reading Room, where the kind attendant comforted me greatly and gave me some food for thought. I was particularly helped by an article in The Christian Science Journal entitled "'The laboratory of infinite Love.'" A redness which had developed in my eye immediately vanished.

Specific prayerful work was done for me that evening by a student of Christian Science. The wounds on my face and arm took considerably longer to heal, because I kept looking at them and watching to see matter healed. It was not until I turned away from the physical evidence that the healing took place. During this experience I felt on pain whatsoever.
