Through Christian Science I have...

Through Christian Science I have received such a great blessing that it is my desire to express my gratitude. In 1947 I had to submit to an X-ray examination of the lungs in accordance with the rules of the factory where I was employed. I received a medical report that my lungs were diseased, and I was told that the law required that I go to a sanitarium. This report made me very much depressed. At this time a dear relative told me of Christian Science, and we went at once to see a practitioner. After he had told us about man's unity with God, as it is taught in Science, I asked him for treatment.

The practitioner explained that even though I had to go to the sanitarium I would be surrounded by the omnipresence and power of God. I took with me the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as some Christian Science periodicals. This literature I studied assiduously, although at first it was strange to me.

After a short time I found that I had been healed of smoking and of the use of alcoholic drinks. This gave me courage, and I endeavored to gain a better understanding of God and to draw nearer to Him. Although the doctors wanted to operate on me, I was upheld by the patient work of the practitioner and was able to avoid the operation, as well as the use of medicine. The twenty-third Psalm in the Bible and the first paragraph of Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question, "What is man?" on page 475 of the textbook, were a help and comfort to me. In a few months I gained sixty-six pounds in weight and was dismissed from the sanitarium.
