I should like to express my deep...

I should like to express my deep and sincere gratitude for Mary Baker Eddy and for her discovery of Christian Science, which has enabled me to understand better my Father-Mother God and His beloved Son, Christ Jesus, our Way-shower.

Early one spring I suffered from such severe pains in my back, hips, and stomach that I could not move without assistance. At this period I received from a friend a number of beautiful references for study. I had been enjoying this study for several hours when I came to the word charity. Surely, I thought, I understand what charity is, and to the best of my ability I am applying it.

On looking up this word in a book of synonyms I found it to be synonymous with mercy, clemency, grace, and lenity; and a dictionary defines "charity" in part as "Christian love." In the Bible I found this passage (I Cor. 13:4-6): "Charity ... doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth." At this point my healing came, and I was filled with gratitude.
