West Coast—Chaplain reports

A trainee requested help of an Army Chaplain who is a Christian Scientist. He explained that he was in the hospital under medical care because of grievous pain in his muscles and feet, apparently caused by strenuous marches. An Army doctor had diagnosed the difficulty as acute arthritis.

While ministering to the needs of this soldier, who had been brought up in Christian Science, the Chaplain directed his attention to the spiritual facts of health and harmony. He reminded the young man of the inspirational statement on page 261 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, "Fixing your gaze on the realities supernal, you will rise to the spiritual consciousness of being, even as the bird which has burst from the egg and preens its wings for a skyward flight." He told the soldier to rejoice in the appearance of healing, even as one rejoices in the hour of the dawn, preparing himself for renewed action and purpose, rather than being preoccupied with the darkness.
