PRINCIPLE—ONE INFINITE PERSON

Because Christian Science honors God as immortal Spirit, it does not accept as real the mortal sense of life. Consequently it rejects the impression that man is a mortal and that there are many individual material persons, each with a mind of his own and each depending upon others for existence. Christian Science unfolds the truth of being, in which it is seen that there is but one infinite individuality, one Person, and that this one Person is the infinite creative Principle of the universe—God.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered the facts of being and recorded her discovery in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes in this volume (p. 517), "The world believes in many persons; but if God is personal, there is but one person, because there is but one God." And later in the same paragraph she adds, "God has countless ideas, and they all have one Principle and parentage." Mrs. Eddy often refers to God as Person and to this one infinite Person as divine Principle, and it is important that we should understand Him in that aspect.

As actually spiritual ideas of the one infinite Person, you and I live in divine Principle, are governed by it, and exist to exhibit its divine nature. Each identity has its place in God's universal design. As we learn these facts through divine Science, we put off our humanly personal conceptions of God and man and gradually learn to demonstrate our true character and our individual activity in God.
