CHRIST'S ETERNAL GLORY

Aganist the background of the sea he taught;
The crowd were silent, hung upon each word,
Wondered, yet felt that this was what they sought,
This Truth the Christ, for so their hearts averred.

Fanned by soft wind, under clear sky he spoke,
While sunlight tossed its gold upon the waves;
The Word, the need, the man—all bade them wake
From futile striving, learn what heals and saves,

What purifies and lifts to larger view,
Bringing assurance where before was fear,
And how the grace of Spirit plants anew
Within repentant thought the seed of prayer.

Each quickened heart responded to the call
Of Soul's effulgent, everlasting now—
Love's power annihilating human ill,
Truth's law before which mortal edicts bow.

Calm as the scene around him, Jesus cried:
"Be not afraid! God's kingdom is at hand!"
The Christly glory swept their doubt aside—
To flood all thought, each era, every land.
