LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Times-Picayune
New Orleans, Louisiana

In [a recent] issue there appeared a report of the state medical convention held recently in New Orleans .... [A speaker] was quoted as saying that "the Christian Science followers of Mary Baker Eddy do not believe in pain, disease, or sickness."

This is true; however, we do not ignore pain, disease, or sickness. We declare them unreal on the basis of creation as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible, where it states, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" [Gen. 1:31].
