"WHERE FETTERS FALL"

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, prophesied the coming of difficult times, but she gave us this comforting promise (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 96, 97): "During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection."

In this Christian work Jesus is our example. He faced world conditions similar to ours. Yet he nullified all the laws of mortality. How did he accomplish this? Through the knowledge and practice of self-government. What is the meaning of self-government in Christian Science? It means that we recognize and accept one omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and omniactive power, divine Principle, which through its unerring laws governs its eternal, perfect creation of spiritual ideas.

Jesus constantly acknowledged and yielded to this governing power. His mentality was identified with the Christ, the pure expression of divine Mind, which governs all. Therefore he was truly self-governed. This enabled him to do mighty works, and to destroy the false beliefs of sin, sickness, discord, and death. Each one of us in his true being reflects the divine individuality, and therefore is also self-governed.
