ORBITS

The sun withdraws in regal majesty,
Yielding awhile the rule of its domain
To the ascending moon and galaxies
Of stars that share in its nocturnal reign.

This law-directed order has not changed
Its primal harmony; the heavens rehearse
Their wonders now as through unnumbered years.
It is an orbit-ordered universe.

And what of man? What order does he share?
Is he a thing of fluctuating chance
That swings outside the orbit of God's care
And so becomes the dupe of circumstance?
