SUPERSTITION GIVES PLACE TO UNDERSTANDING

The man of God's creating is the man of understanding. His environment is the presence of God, good. He has an ever-increasing awareness of this presence. The man of understanding is never afraid or in doubt concerning his course of action, because his spiritual understanding assures and directs him. Opposed to the man of understanding there seems to be a medley of beliefs termed a mortal, who seems to live in an environment of uncertainty rather than in the kingdom of spiritual understanding. This false concept of man is swayed by beliefs and acts according to their persuasion.

This mortal or material concept is not man, and in Christian Science we learn to exchange this false sense for the true idea of man. Thus we awaken to find all true being to be God's being, the ever-presence of good, which is man's by reflection. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 517, 518): "Man is not made to till the soil. His birthright is dominion, not subjection. He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven,—himself subordinate alone to his Maker. This is the Science of being."

How much of true manhood and womanhood do we comprehend? How much of Truth's supreme dominion can we exercise? We possess only what we can prove, and if we are alive to the declarations of Truth learned through Christian Science we can prove here and now that our true identity does not exist in the realm of beliefs but rather in the kingdom of spiritual understanding.
