One evening my husband and I...

One evening my husband and I received a telephone call from the city hospital telling us that our young daughter had been in an automobile accident and had been taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition. Immediately I tried to realize that there are no accidents in God's universe, that man as His image and likeness is spiritual, perfect, indestructible, and "dwelleth in the secret place of the most High." I got in touch with a relative in a distant city and asked her to work for our daughter, who was a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School. I shall never cease being grateful for the dear realization of God's presence which came to me in that moment.

We were told at the hospital that X rays showed a broken pelvis. My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, called in a specialist and had our daughter removed to a private hospital. Another examination was made, and the doctor gave the same verdict. He said there was nothing to do but to keep her quiet, as it was just a matter of time before the condition would be healed. In a few days she was entirely without pain, and we were told by the nurses that she was improving rapidly.

About the time we were expecting to be given permission to take her home, however, the doctor informed us, after taking more X rays, that it would be necessary to put her in a cast. These words from our textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, gave us courage (p. 544): "No mortal mind has the might or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. All is under the control of the one Mind, even God." Our daughter begged to be taken home and expressed the desire to rely entirely upon Christian Science treatment. So we decided to call my teacher and ask for his help. He took up the work immediately, and that very morning my husband consented to take our daughter home. After a week of Christian Science treatment she was able to walk from her room into the living room, and in a short time she was entirely recovered.
