I came to the United States from...

I came to the United States from a European country and greatly admired the many freedoms Americans enjoy. Among these I particularly appreciated the freedom of worship.

While attending evening classes at the local high school, I made the acquaintance of a man who was to become a very good friend of mine and of my husband. His patient and loving attitude, as well as his unusual way of thinking concerning national and international questions of the day, soon prompted us to inquire what philosophy he was following. He told us that he was a Christian Scientist, and so we learned for the first time about Christian Science.

Later my husband became ill and was told that he should undergo a difficult operation. He was in a very depressed state of mind, and so I called our friend, asking him whether Christian Science would be of help. He loaned us a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and my husband and I started reading it. We soon began to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and to attend services at the local Christian Science church. Much spiritual growth and regeneration followed. Surgery was, of course, not mentioned any more, and my husband was healed in Christian Science. This spiritual growth enabled me to dispense with material remedies, and for the past seven years I have relied with trust and understanding on the divine All-power and presence.
