Signs of the Times

Rev. D. W. Langridge, M. A., in a
sermon in The Christian World
London, England

God is everywhere. If we ascend into heaven. He is there, and likewise if we descend into hell.... It is well... to remind ourselves that the divine presence is in fact no more there than here, no more above than below, no more outside us than within. In things spiritual we leave the dimensions of time and space altogether. We are apt to imagine that somehow, in a higher sphere and at a later time, God will be present to us more easily and obviously than He is here and now. Fatal illusion! wholly irrespective of the here or the hereafter, of earth or heaven, it is we ourselves who have to decide how near we shall live to God, how much of His presence we will have. The kingdom of God is within us.
