When I think back to the days...

When I think back to the days before I Knew of Christian Science, I wonder where I should be today without this beautiful and healing religion. As a child I was supposed to be very frail. There were always two or three bottles of medicine standing on the sideboard in the dining room labeled "before meals" or "after meals." My mother went from one illness to another, and often we children would be sent away to relatives during a siege of illness, doctors, and nurses. At other times she underwent operations either at one of our famous hospitals in the country or at some "rest cure" away from family responsibilities.

Then Christian Science came into our home, and the shadows began to lift. My mother had an almost instantaneous healing of a nervous breakdown caused by her physical ailments. I can remember our wonder and amazement at the change that took place. In a very short time she had regained strength and flesh, and her entire outlook on life became joyous and happy. Needless to say, the entire atmosphere of our home was changed.

In my own experience I have seen many physical healings. The healing of constipation was a blessed relief after years of bondage. At one time, when away from home on a trip, I contracted pneumonia. It seemed wise to move me from the place where we were staying to the home of Christian Scientists, though they were strangers to us. This was done in the dead of winter. My husband and son simply bundled me up in blankets and drove me in the car, though I seemed to be very ill and the car at one place became stuck in the snow and had to be driven back and around a longer way. But it was wonderful to reach this haven of love, and I could never forget the great kindness shown me by absolute strangers.
