BETTY MAKES A DISCOVERY

Betty stood on the edge of the playground at recess time. She watched all the other girls and boys playing and having fun. She didn't know anybody, for this was her very first day at school in the big city. No one paid any attention to her at all.

"Well, how did you like your new school?" asked Aunt Jessie at noon when Betty was eating her lunch.

"I—I—," Betty began, trying to keep the tears back, "well, I don't think anybody likes me."
