Throat ailments healed and financial troubles overcome

Over twenty years ago Christian Science came to us at a time when materially we had everything that we needed. We were active members in an orthodox church and quite satisfied. Then I was taken ill with a severe throat ailment, which baffled the physicians. After having treatments for many weeks, I became greatly discouraged. I threw away all medicines, called on a Christian Science practitioner, and had an instantaneous healing. Our two children were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School, the youngest when she was only two years old.

Then came the blessed privilege of class instruction. This was to fit me, although I knew it not, for a great trial which beset my path. In 1932 during the so-called depression my husband, who was not at all interested in Christian Science, lost a very lucrative business, and it looked as though everything we held most dear would be taken from us. In the small town where we were then living, we started a little business, although neither of us knew anything about it. We were told that there were already too many stores of the same kind established there and that we could not possibly make a go of it. But with the help of my teacher in Christian Science and by putting into practice the truths learned, we did make a go of it. We worked many hours every day and were much discussed because we held up so well and were prospering.

During this time our youngest daughter was sent home from school with a note saying she had the mumps. After we had sung all of Mrs. Eddy's hymns and many others, she was healed and returned to school the next day. At another time I had bought a new electric iron, and its brightness attracted the child's attention. It became too hot, so I pulled the plug out. The child, believing it had become cold, ran over and began to stroke it. She was badly burned, but was healed through our repeating "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
