PERCEIVING AND DEMONSTRATING THE TRUE IDEA OF GOD AND MAN

Starting with God as the only cause and creator, a wholly good creator and creation, Christian Science teaches that our work is to keep His record of creation before our thought, to accept and ponder it, to love and demonstrate it. The effect on ourselves of accepting this spiritual fact of the goodness of God and His creation is made clear in the following lines from "Unity of Good" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (p. 46): "The scientific man and his Maker are here; and you would be none other than this man, if you would subordinate the fleshly perceptions to the spiritual sense and source of being."

Subordinating "the fleshly perceptions to the spiritual sense and source of being" necessitates subduing the false, material sense of life and enthroning the true and spiritual. It is a winnowing process in which God, Spirit, Mind, and His creation are recognized as the only reality, and whatever the fleshly senses perceive is renounced as unreal. It is accepting God as the only origin of man and beholding man as God's idea.

As we comprehend this true idea of perfect cause and effect, accept and cherish it, we demonstrate our actual selfhood as spiritual and perfect, made in His likeness. In Truth it has always been our only selfhood, but through this corrective process we come into a more intimate acquaintance with it.
