"Thy will be done" (Matt. 6:10)

"Thy will be done" (Matt. 6:10). These words comforted and protected me through the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. For the line of the Lord's Prayer which reads, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven," Mrs. Eddy has given us on page 17 of Science and Health the spiritual interpretation, "Enable us to know,—as in heaven, so on earth,—God is omnipotent, supreme."

When I entered the United States Navy, my wife presented me with a serviceman's edition of Science and Health. On embarkation I put it in the breast pocket of my shirt, and it never left me until I returned. When the going was rough, my greatest comfort was the chapter on Prayer. There are so many passages in that chapter which I loved and clung to that I could not enumerate them all. When I was crouched in the slime and mud of fox holes during attacks, the presence of that little book reminded me of Mrs. Eddy's assurance of God's protection.

During an air raid on Henderson Field in January, 1943, my ears were ruptured from bomb concussion. I was discharged with a sixty per cent disability known as "deafness, bilateral"; but I was healed in Christian Science through the help of a Wartime Minister who visited the naval hospital every week. Words cannot express my gratitude for this activity of The Mother Church.
