Daily in the newspapers, over the...

Daily in the newspapers, over the radio, and in conversations people are continually harassed by the mortal mind claim that homes are not available. My gratitude for a knowledge of Christian Science, which dissolved this mesmeric belief, knows no bounds.

A decision to move a business venture led to Los Angeles, despite warnings from well-meaning friends and others that it was the most acute housing-shortage area in the nation. The move was made late in 1944 with the confidence that a place would be provided, for Jesus promised (John 14:2), "In my Father's house are many mansions." In spite of this assurance, together with many others brought to light through the study of the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, months went by without a residence being provided. The services of a practitioner were secured, and almost his first words were: "Your house is ready for you now. It is yours, and no one else can have it because no one will be able to see it." This fact he reiterated vehemently in later discussions of the matter, but how anyone could fail to see a house was not readily discernible by the writer.

Late in April word came from my wife that our landlord had requested that the house in which, the family lived be vacated on June 1. If that house was needed it was clear that it should be vacated, but mortal mind said very loudly, "Where will you put them?" Fear took the helm, and I hesitated doing anything that would release the one roof we had.
