DISCERN THE "CONSCIOUS INFINITUDE OF EXISTENCE"

In answer to the question, "What is God?" Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 465), "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." Christian Science teaches that man is made in the image and likeness of God; that he is, in spiritual fact, the expression of God's being. Man therefore reflects all the characteristics or qualities of God.

These constitute our only true being, since, as our Leader tells us (ibid., p. 554), "There is no such thing as mortality, nor are there properly any mortal beings, because being is immortal, like Deity,—or, rather, being and Deity are inseparable." As we recognize, claim, and demonstrate the divine qualities in our own experience, we are Christian Scientists.

A student of Christian Science had been burdened for many days with a sense of mental strain, toil, and depression. Her days seemed all drudgery, with no time to express her God-given abilities. This heavy-laden sense was denied vigorously, but relief did not follow. When she appealed to a more experienced student for help, she was asked to ascend to her highest plane of thought and to write down all the ways in which she knew her real being not to be limited. After a few quiet moments the following truths unfolded to her thought.
