LETTERS TO THE PRESS from Christian Science Committees on Publication

City Times, Oklahoma City

In a recent issue of your newspaper it is reported that an attorney, in handling a case before the Oklahoma County District Court, "cited instances from the lives of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Baker Eddy" as among "several historical characters who are reported to have suffered from paranoia or a persecution complex." While the attorney surely had no intention of casting aspersion upon either of these great Americans, and the assertion may have been uttered in the eagerness to make a point, nevertheless your readers should be correctly informed. I therefore request that you publish this letter.

The lives and accomplishments of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Baker Eddy are good evidence of their complete mental soundness. I am not an authority on Lincoln, but I do know a number of people who were intimately acquainted with Mrs. Eddy. They all have marveled at her clarity of thought, her judgment, and her sagacity.
