CHARLES E. HEITMAN, C. S. B.
It is with deep regret and with sincere sympathy for the many friends and pupils of our beloved associate and co-worker, Charles E. Heitman, C. S. B., that we report his passing on at his home on Beacon Hill, Boston, Friday, October 1.
For many years Mr. Heitman served the Cause of Christian Science actively and faithfully. He became a member of The Christian Science Board of Directors in October, 1929.
Mr. Heitman was born in McLean County, Kentucky. He received his early education in the public schools and as a young man prepared for the practice of law. He discontinued this study to enter the Spanish-American War, in which he served as a member of the First Volunteer Cavalry, better known as Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Thereafter he engaged in business, becoming a member of the Real Estate Board of the City of New York, where he served from 1911 to 1923. While in business Mr. Heitman became interested in Christian Science. He became a member of The Mother Church and of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, in 1910. Mr. Heitman was elected a trustee of Second Church. New York City, in 1913, and served for a period of three years, during two of which he acted as chairman. He was elected president of that church in 1916. and from 1918 to 1921 served a full term of three years as its First Reader.
