"And I, if I be lifted up from...

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me" (John 12:12).

The most beautiful experiences I have had in proving the efficacy of Christian Science have been in connection with my work as a teacher. At one time I had a group of boys and girls who caused me much concern because of a persistent display of cheating during tests. After failing to remedy the situation by human means, I decided to apply my slight understanding of Christian Science. As the end of the term approached, however, I could see no appreciable progress.

The following term these children, now in the graduating class, came to me for certain subjects. When I was conducting the first test of the new session, my thought spontaneously turned to God with a fervent desire that, above all else, these children might gain a higher sense of honor and honesty before they left our school. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 1) that "desire is prayer." And verily it was a glorious experience of holy prayer, for my thought was so uplifted that I was literally "absent from the body, and ... present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8), Divine Love's response came as clearly as the spoken word: These children are God's ideas and cannot possibly be deprived of the privilege of expressing all the qualities of God. That is their divine heritage.
