I am humbly grateful that I was...

I am humbly grateful that I was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School at an early age. Not hearing illness discussed in my home was a protection which I learned to appreciate in later years. During my college days I drifted somewhat from the truth I had been taught, but the seed had been sown, and after my marriage I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest.

I have been healed of measles, pleurisy, colitis, shingles, influenza, severe sunburn, the need of wearing glasses when reading, burns, sprains, and of the results of an accident affecting one of my eyes. In the last case all discoloration and swelling left within fifteen minutes after a practitioner was called. For these healings I am very grateful, but I am even more grateful for an improved outlook on life, a kinder disposition, and the lessening of fear and a tendency to worry.

I deeply appreciate Mrs. Eddy's place as Founder and Leader of the Christian Science movement and the many ways she has provided for the dissemination of the truth, such as our church services and the Sunday School, the Reading Rooms, the Board of Lectureship, our periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor. I am grateful for church membership and the opportunity to serve our Cause. My desire is to grow more obedient daily and so be worthy of the name Christian Scientist.— (Mrs.) Virginia Hopkins Vates, Pueblo, Colorado.
