The Infinite's Bestowals

"God is not moved by the breath of praise to do more than He has already done, nor can the infinite do less than bestow all good, since He is unchanging wisdom and Love." These words appearing on page 2 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy may well serve as a basis for some heart-searching questions.

First, what has God already done? And to answer this query let us consider two synonyms of God—Mind and Love. The essential function of Mind is to know, to understand, to be conscious. God being "unchanging wisdom and Love," the one and only creator, He must know Himself as infinite good.

Mind always expresses itself in ideas. These ideas constitute creation. "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen.1:31). Everything that He makes, manifests Love's attributes, namely, substance, wisdom, intelligence, being, and immortality. Mind, omnipotence, eternally supports and maintains its ideas and endows them with ability and power. Nothing can minimize this ability or render this power ineffective.
