The results of the application of Christian Science prove that God is "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). For my early training at home and in the Christian Science Sunday School I have always been grateful. However, instead of working out my own problems. I shifted them either to my mother or to a practitioner. Consequently, after leaving the Sunday School at the age of twenty, I gradually drifted away from church and ceased studying until I was finally using Christian Science as people use medicine.

This continued until about six years ago when another member of the family became so ill that there appeared to be no way out. One day when things seemed very dark, I met a practitioner who had once been my Sunday School teacher. She inquired about my study of Science. My negative reply embarrassed me, but her loving answer so encouraged me that I decided to apply myself diligently to studying again. I have found that the benefits of studying the Lesson-Sermon daily are a hundredfold.

With my awakened interest came the desire to have a new Bible and Science and Health of my own, but my small salary made this seem impossible. However, I knew that since it was right, there was a way. That very week an opportunity came, before I had applied for it, to do some extra temporary work. Other similar opportunities followed until had purchased all of the books.
