KEPT BY ANGELS

[Of Special Interest to Children. Original Article in German]

Little Gottfried lived in Switzerland. He was seven years old and had been attending the Christian Science Sunday School for some time. Ever since he was a very small baby his mother had read the Lesson-Sermons to him from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Together they learned something more every day about divine Love; sometimes Mother taught Gottfried, and sometimes Gottfried taught Mother.

Gottfried was less than four years old when he began to understand that Christian Science heals. At that time he pinched his finger. Running to his mother, holding out his hand, he begged, "Say it. Mother, say it—'there is no' .... 'there is no' ...!" Mother clasped him in her arms, repeating "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), which begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Soon Gottfried was happily back at play, and his finger had regained its normal color.

Later, when the little boy was attending the public school, some of the children could not come to school. The teacher said there was a contagious disease. One morning it seemed as if Gottfried too had to stay at home. But he and his mother knew that God, good, never lets His children become sick, and that Gottfried could only have a happy day even if he had to stay at home.
