How Little Joe Was Healed

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Little Joe Miller lived in the same house with his grandmother, whom he loved very dearly. She was always interested in what he was doing and often read stories to him from the Bible and talked to him about their meaning. Sometimes, if he promised to be quiet and listen, she would let him sit in her room while she read aloud the Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly. Joe knew that his grandmother studied this Lesson every morning.

Grandmother sometimes talked to Joe about God's goodness, about His love for His children and His care of them. She helped him learn the Ten Commandments, and explained them so that he would know how to be obedient to them. Joe liked best of all the Bible stories the one about Jesus welcoming little children. He knew that Jesus had given us the Beatitudes, and he had learned another of Jesus' promises (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

When things did not seem to go well with Joe and he was unhappy, he and his grandmother would have a little visit, talk the problem over, and know the truth about it. He always went away happy after a talk with his grandmother.
