Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

The Age

Melbourne, Australia (Second Church).

Large congregations attended all three dedicatory services of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Melbourne, at Cookson Street, Camberwell. The foundation stone was laid in 1936. The church was established by nineteen members in 1924, to relieve the overflowing congregations of First Church.

In 1938 the Royal Victorian Institute of Architects awarded the Street architectural medal to the building as the finest piece of architecture erected in the state during that year, the examining jury commenting upon the dignity and simplicity of the design. The debt-free church edifice now stands as a silent witness to the stability and progressive nature of the Christian Science movement in its purpose of advancing the worship of God and bringing comfort and healing to humanity.—The Age.
