Rockville Center, New York (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rockville Center, formally dedicated its church edifice on Sunday, April 21, 1946. Three services were held—in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

The history of the local church is marked by progress throughout. In 1905 a small group of residents held Christian Science services in a private home, and in 1911 this group was recognized as a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, and became known as Christian Science Society, Rockville Center. As the number of attendants increased, larger quarters became necessary, and services were then held in the Bank of Rockville Center Trust Company Building, and later in the Masonic Temple.

By 1924 the growth of the society warranted its recognition and incorporation as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rockville Center, and the ever-increasing attendance made still larger quarters necessary. Therefore, property was purchased on Morris Avenue, extending from Cedar to Raymond Avenues, and in 1930 construction of the present church edifice was started. The building is of English-Tudor architecture. First services were held in the new building on February 15, 1931.
