Daily Victory over Death

One of the many inspiring facts which we learn in the study of Christian Science is that Life. Truth, and Love are a law of destruction to sin, sickness, and death. Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 380, 381), "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God."

In applying this statement to the various phases of his daily experience it seems to the Christian Scientist at this period easy to understand and quite natural to accept the truth that sin and sickness can be destroyed. But death still seems to be thought of more or less as an impassable barrier which can be surmounted only in a remote period. The fact is, however that each victory over a belief in matter, each repudiation of a concession to material law, so called, is in reality a partial destruction of the concept of death.

The green pastures of Love's infinite security, peace, safety, and harmony are not a great way off nor is time required to reach them. Indeed, man lives eternally in this spiritual atmosphere, and it is only false human belief that argues for a material body and universe where death occurs. May it not be well for us to consider prayerfully how we can overcome death each day and thus prove individually that well-known statement of the Master's (John 10:30), "I and my Father are one"?
