I first heard of Christian Science...

I first heard of Christian Science a few days before my husband passed on. He had been an invalid and had suffered much for ten years. Somebody mentioned Christian Science to me, but I thought of it as just another "treatment," and believed it was much too late to try anything else.

After my husband passed on, I felt like a ship without a rudder. I plunged into material pleasures, which I felt had so long been denied me, and endeavored to "forget." But this not only soon palled, but brought me very near to disaster. I became a heavy smoker and social drinker. Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 324). "Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear,—this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony." This was proved in my experience.

I was at this time living at the seaside and did not know anyone there interested in Christian Science, but I found the Reading Room, and looked in the Journal for a practitioner. It was some time before I plucked up enough courage to go to see her, but when I did I was met with such kindness and understanding that I just burst into tears and poured out all my troubles to her. After that I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest, anal I have had many wonderful experiences and healings since.
