It is with deep gratitude to God...

It is with deep gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, that I testify to the many blessings received by practicing the truths in the Christian Science textbook.

From early childhood I was a member of an orthodox church, but as I grew older I became dissatisfied with its teachings and reached out for a larger understanding of God, man, and the universe. While visiting a friend I noticed that she read and reread a little book, and I remarked that it must be a very interesting subject. I then asked if I might read it. She acquiesced, saying it was the only copy she had and requesting that I leave it where she could always find it. My interest was doubly aroused, and opening the book at random I read the following words (Science and Health, p. 340): "The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the tri-unity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind."

That one clearly expounded statement satisfied me. It gave me a vision of divine omnipotence. I read on and on till early morning. I purchased a copy of the textbook, and to this day its precepts have never failed me when correctly applied.
