At this time, when parents and loved ones of those in the armed forces are reaching out for comfort and reassurance, I feel impelled to write this testimony of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me.

Over a year and a half ago a message came from the War Department that my son, a pilot with the Air Forces in North Africa, was missing in action. My first thought and words were: "It is not true. God's child cannot be missing." I held to the thought that God knew where he was and that this was all that was necessary. Temptations to make me give way to human grief came. Mental pictures of dire disaster to the human sense of life presented themselves for acceptance, but were shut out with the truth of the indestructibility of God's man.

One afternoon, as I was walking along the street in a confused state of mental darkness and grief, I quite unexpectedly encountered a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner. Without even so much as a word from me, she began to talk to me so reassuringly and lovingly that my peace and poise were at once restored. Her spiritual vision of man's safety was so illuminating that my healing was complete right then, even though weeks were to pass before any word came from the government as to my son's status. Words are inadequate to express the joy and gratitude I felt, during those weeks of waiting, for the wonderful Scriptural promises, and for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who labored so steadfastly to bring her revelation of Truth to this age.
