"He brought me up also out of...

"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry . clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth." I am deeply grateful for Christian Science, which elucidates this beautiful promise of Scripture and fulfills it in our everyday experience when we rely wholly upon God.

During the "depression," my husband lost his position. For a while all went well, but the expense of keeping two children in school, a home, a maid, and a car, became a problem. I was working in an orthodox church, giving it the greater part of my time. Through lack of help in the home, I was obliged to give up this work. The worry and strain of curtailed supply brought on an ulcerated stomach which the doctor stated might lead to cancer. I brooded over this until I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, spending most of my time in bed, wanting to die.

During this time the Bible was read from beginning to end, but it was laid aside as of no help. After position, money, and health were gone, in desperation I turned to God, wholly and completely, for light and understanding. In a few days a friend who was a Christian Scientist came to see me, and knowing of her happy outlook on life, and the trouble and sickness she had experienced, I began to ask her questions. She said, "'The kingdom of God is within you.'" So I thought I had better try to find it.
