Christian Science Committee on Publication for British Columbia, Canada, Reports

A proposed comprehensive Compulsory Health Insurance Bill for the whole of Canada is now before the Federal House for consideration. Supported by the Committees on Publication throughout the Dominion, a strong committee of Christian Scientists met with a special parliamentary committee in Ottawa, and our case for exemption was fully and ably presented with the request that the amendment in the British Columbia Health Insurance Act, protecting the rights of all Christian Scientists, be included in the proposed Federal Bill.

That our Cause is being recognized as one of the leading religions may be seen in the following public and government regulations: (1) Our men and women in the armed forces of Canada are no longer classified under "other denominations" but may have their identity discs marked "C. Sci."; (2) When a proclamation setting apart a day of prayer is issued by the Canadian Government, a notice is now sent directly from the office of the Secretary of State to all Christian Science Committees on Publication in Canada; (3) In the rationing of gasoline our registered Christian Science practitioners have been placed in a special category with physicians, so that they receive additional gasoline to carry on their practice.

Our Assistant Committee on Publication for Duncan was invited to deliver an address on Christian Science to the Young People's Group of St. Michael's and All Saints Church of England. With permission of The Christian Science Board of Directors our Assistant gave an address approved by them. The young people, who were searching for the truth, much appreciated the talk.
