Love's Law

Out of the depth of his experience did the Psalmist speak when he said: "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

Christian Science explains why the contemplation of this law brings untold blessings. It is because in such contemplation the comprehensiveness, completeness, and absoluteness of God's government of man and the universe are seen. Every time we know the truth about God and His allness, a law of obliteration to all error is put into operation, and an ever-present law of adjustment to every detail of man's life is established. Since God's law governs man, how important it is that in these times when there seems to be so much lawlessness, we should understandingly know and hourly declare that God's law is the only law, and that because God is omnipotent, this law is even now governing the nations and their citizens, and those in authority over the nations.

In the Old Testament we read of Moses' receptivity to God's Word and of the revelation he received of divine law as set forth in the Ten Commandments. But there is little doubt that in those days God, who was understood as the lawgiver, was believed to be a Being given, at times, to anger and revenge.
