At a time when many younger...

At a time when many younger students of Christian Science are possibly wondering what the understanding gained from this study will do for them in time of war, I trust that my expression of gratitude will be helpful and encouraging.

About a year before our country became involved in the first World War, I experienced instantaneous freedom from pain through the help of a practitioner. This was my first healing in Christian Science, and inasmuch as I had spent an entire afternoon in study without being able to place my weight on an injured foot, the healing, which immediately enabled me to walk without discomfort, impressed me very much. As a result of this experience I at once began the earnest and intense study of Christian Science.

On the third day after our declaration of war I volunteered my services. My army discharge shows "St. Mihiel," "Argonne," "Argonne-Meuse," and I also have a medal from Verdun, France, given to those who aided in the defense of that city. What all this means only one who has been through it knows, but as a result of the application of my understanding of Christian Science, aided no doubt by the prayers of a loved Christian Scientist at home, I was able to be at my place of duty every day.
