I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude for the wonderful protection that I have received through an understanding of Christian Science during the trying period since September, 1939. I was called up for duty with the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service at the beginning of hostilities, and many times have been out in severe air raids for many hours, but have always been completely protected.

I should like in particular to mention the night of April 15-16, 1941, when a call for help came to our station from another area several miles away, which was receiving the full force of an air attack. Two ambulances and three cars were sent from our station. I was on the first ambulance. There was little time for specific mental work, because we had to keep a very careful lookout for craters in the road. As we neared the area, we seemed to be entering an inferno, for whole streets were on fire, and the noise of exploding bombs, gunfire, and the drone of hundreds of planes was deafening.

It did not seem possible that we should be able to get through; but the story of the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace came clearly to my thought just then, followed by the realization that the same power was present now to protect us; that we could do what was required of us without harm to ourselves, and that because man is spiritual, nothing material could touch us.
