Among the Churches

Fort Myers, Florida (First Church).—In November, 1914, a small group of people began holding Christian Science services in the home of one of its group. In a short time the attendance grew, and the services were then held in Masonic Hall, located on the third floor of the Bank of Fort Myers Building. In February, 1918, a Christian Science Society was organized, and at this time a Reading Room was maintained on the second floor of the same building.

In 1921 the society acquired a building lot at the corner of McGregor Boulevard and Henley Place, the present location of the church building, and in 1922 began holding services in a small frame structure. In December, 1922, a charter was granted, the society changing its name to "First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fort Myers, Florida." In January, 1926, the Reading Room was moved to the Travers Arcade, 831 First Street.

When the society was organized, a Sunday school for children was established, holding its services each Sunday morning. Now that the new church is completed, the old church is being used for a temporary Sunday school room until the permanent one is added to the new structure.
