I am very grateful for the opportunity...

I am very grateful for the opportunity to study Christian Science, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the privilege of class instruction.

This Science of Christianity came to me, not as the result of a search for health, but because of my great love for a member of the family into which I had married. When we were with her, we read the weekly Lesson–Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly together, because it pleased her to do so. Thus the reading and study habit was formed, and an understanding of the Bible—illumined by Mary Baker Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"—developed which has brought important and beautiful results.

Many testing times have come to me since then. One, which came very soon, deprived me of a close companion, took me from my home, and changed completely my way of living. Although floods and difficulty in traveling kept Science friends from coming to me and, seemingly, I was alone, all the help I needed was at hand. Strangers said to me, "It must be a beautiful religion that will bring so much poise under such circumstances."
