When I took up the study of Christian Science six years ago I was groping in complete darkness. I could not believe in a God who, as it was believed, imposed so much hardship on me. Therefore, when a dear friend drew my attention to Christian Science, at first my husband and I refused to go with her to a Wednesday evening meeting. When, later, we did go, we heard so much that bespoke love and good that we at once bought the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. We learned to know the true God, the God who does not send any sickness. An entirely different life began for us and one healing followed another.

I should like to tell here of a healing I experienced three years ago. In midsummer I ate something which disagreed with me, and contracted a severe case of ptomaine poisoning. I declared "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) over and over and thus kept going through the day. In the evening things were so bad that I had to lie down. My husband and I realized the truth, and the pain lessened somewhat, and I went to sleep. However, during the night violent pains wakened me, and I experienced severe spasms. My husband then called on a Christian Science practitioner as quickly as he could, and treatment was given me right away. Gradually the pain was quieted, and I went to bed again. When my husband returned and inquired about my condition, I was already better.

I thought that I had overcome the difficulty, but about a week later I was taken with severe pains in the abdomen. I worked to overcome the pain, and succeeded. But at night the pain increased so that I could not think clearly. My husband rushed to the practitioner and asked for help, which was given me all through the night. When the practitioner came to see me the next morning, I was already in the garden. She gave me another treatment and I was completely healed.
